CSA crypto platform checker

Mitey the yeti pointing ahead while holding a clipboard, with a maple leaf
Mitey says: Search the name on the platform’s own terms of service, not the app icon. Legal names are what regulators list.

Type a platform's name to see where it sits on the CSA's own lists. The lists checked are authorized platforms, pre-registration undertakings, stablecoin issuer undertakings, banned platforms and expired decisions. Each result links to the regulator's decision. Lists transcribed from securities-administrators.ca on 2026-11-01; confirm on the CSA site before you act.

Searches the CSA authorized (19), pre-registration undertaking (2), stablecoin issuer (2), banned (6) and expired-decision (5) lists as transcribed on 2026-11-01.

What the checker cannot tell you

  • Whether a registered platform is financially sound. QuadrigaCX and FTX both show why custody and solvency matter; see the incident library.
  • Whether a particular website or app is genuinely operated by the listed company. Compare the web address with the one in the decision.
  • Anything about DeFi protocols, which are never registered. For those, use the protocol risk scorecard.

Step-by-step guide: how to check a crypto platform in Canada. Rules behind the lists: platform rules.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a crypto exchange is legal in Canada?

Check whether it is on the CSA list of crypto platforms authorized to do business with Canadians. As of 2026-11-01, 19 entities were on it; some are limited to certain provinces. Platforms that serve Canadians, including foreign ones, must be registered.

What does a pre-registration undertaking mean?

The platform is not registered. It has committed to investor-protection terms so it can keep operating while regulators review its application. CSA says filing one does not mean registration will be granted.

Why isn't my DeFi protocol on the list?

Because the lists cover businesses that hold or trade assets for Canadians. A protocol you use from your own wallet is not registered, and none of the platform protections apply to you.
