How this tool works
As of 2026-10-30, the CSA says crypto platforms serving Canadians, including those based abroad, must register with provincial or territorial securities regulators, and platforms still under review operate under a signed pre-registration undertaking. The CSA publishes both lists.
Work through each step on the official sites in a new tab, then record what you found here. The tool summarizes the result. It cannot see the official lists itself, so it relies on what you enter.
Registration rules apply to platforms and dealers. Using a DeFi protocol directly from your own wallet comes with none of these protections. See Canadian platform rules.
Limits
- Official lists change; check them on the day you decide.
- A listed platform can still fail or have problems; registration is not a guarantee.
- Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
Questions people ask
How do I check if a crypto platform is registered in Canada?
Search the CSA's list of crypto platforms authorized to do business with Canadians and its crypto undertakings list, then confirm the firm on the CSA's Are They Registered search. Make sure the website you are using matches the one in the decision.
What is a pre-registration undertaking?
It is a commitment a crypto platform signs with Canadian regulators so it can keep operating while its registration application is reviewed. It includes terms such as custody and client-protection requirements.
Can a foreign crypto exchange serve Canadians without registering?
According to the CSA (page updated 2025-10-22), platforms located outside Canada that provide services to Canadians must also be registered in Canada.
