Questions people ask
Do I have to report crypto if I didn't cash out to dollars?
Possibly. CRA lists trading one crypto-asset for another, and paying for goods or services with crypto, as dispositions. Cashing out is not the only taxable event.
What if I made mistakes on past returns?
CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program offers case-by-case relief to taxpayers who come forward to correct errors or omissions. Talk to a tax professional about whether it applies.
What records does CRA want for crypto?
Date and time, units and type, CAD value, the nature of each transaction, the other party or address, your wallet addresses, and yearly balances, kept at least six years.
